Homemade Gifts 7: Here Is A Lip Balm Recipe You Can Try Yourself
- 1/4 cup herb infused oil (almond, sesame, jojoba, etc.)
- 1/4 oz beeswax
Melt the above using a double-boiler or very low heat. When beeswax is completely melted, remove from heat and allow to cool a little.
Then add 10-20 drops of essential oil as desired – e.g, cool and refreshing peppermint, or warm cinnamon oil, or luxurious rose oil.
You could also add some natural coloring if you wish. Beet powder and other herbs can be used for coloring.
Increase the amount of beeswax if you like your lip balm more solid.
In a hurry? Use Cinnamint Lip Balm™!
Cinnamint Lip Balm™ is a natural lip balm enriched with essential oils, vitamins, and MSM to soothe and prevent chapping. Ideal for summer and winter lip care.
It includes sweet almond oil, beeswax, MSM, wolfberry (Lycium barbarum) seed oil, and essential oils of peppermint, spearmint, and cinnamon, hemp seed oil, orange wax, orange oil, vitamin E, A and C.
All common lipsticks include known carcinogens – five to be exact. What a blessing to use lip care that is actually good for you.
Never leave home without your lip balm – and give this stocking stuffer as a year-round favorite gift.
Homemade Gifts 8: Want To Make Your Own Anti-Wrinkle Treatment?
Here is what you need for this homemade gift:
- 2 oz Jojoba oil
- 25 drops essential oil or oil blend of your choice
The essential oils of lavender, geranium, neroli, rosemary, rose, and frankincense are historic “anti-aging” ingredients for mature skin.
Jasmine, myrrh, and helichrysum also rejuvenate the skin, encouraging new cell growth.
Since jojoba oil also contains natural wrinkle removing qualities, it is a natural for a base or carrier oil to add the essential oils into. Mixing and matching oils creates a natural synergy.
For example: Lavender has its own characteristic attributes, as does helichrysum. However, when they are mixed, instead of 1 and 1 making 2, they magnify each other to the tune of perhaps 5 or 6 or more.
Use your anti-wrinkle treatment day and/or night for a truly enhancing and youthful appearance.
If you want a unique skin care with Age Refining Technology, use the extraordinary A.R.T. skin care line. Happy gift-giving!
Homemade Gifts 9: The Alternative Body And Dusting Powder!
You may think you take good care of yourself every morning – taking a shower, washing your hair, brushing your teeth, and dusting yourself with talcum powder.
The sad truth is, before you even get to breakfast, you have taken in numerous carcinogenic ingredients that are in your personal care products.
Talcum powder that you use for personal care is linked to cancer. Sadly, even baby powder contains harmful ingredients. Therefore, let’s make our own …
Body and Dusting Powder
- 3/4 cup arrowroot powder
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 25 drops of essential oil
Mix very well in a blender or with a mortar and pestle. That’s it!
The benefit of making your own powder – besides the health benefit – is that you can scent your ‘body and dusting powder’ with your very own favorite scent. Try grapefruit oil, it’s my favorite! Or use Joy™, geranium or White Angelica. Makes for a unique and personal gift!
Homemade Gifts 10: Here Is Your Almond/Oatmeal Exfoliating Facial Scrub
Here is what you need for this precious fragrant gift:
- 1/2 cup raw almonds
- 1/2 cup ground oatmeal
- 20-25 drops of essential oil of your choice
Grind almonds to a fine texture in a food processor or grinder. Add ground oatmeal and essential oil and mix well.
How To Use Your Almond/Oatmeal Exfoliating Facial Scrub:
- Wet face.
- Add 1 tsp. of the scrub to your palm and moisten with water; apply to face.
- Massage in a circular motion over face and neck.
- Rinse well with cool water, pat dry.
Use as a regular face wash or as needed to exfoliate. If you prefer a refreshing facial scrub, choose peppermint oil. Should you prefer a calming effect, take chamomile or lavender.
No Time – No Problem! Use Satin Facial Scrub™.
Just get the Young Living Satin Facial Scrub™ Mint. It is an advanced cleansing formula designed for normal skin. It cleans, nourishes, and stimulates without damaging the skin’s natural pH balance.
Safe, gentle ingredients help to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin for a fresher, smoother appearance. Contains MSM, antioxidants, vitamins, and botanicals such as aloe vera, rosemary and chamomile extract, shea and mango butter, and more.
Who says washing your face is no fun? Make this a gift for all your friends! Men need facial scrubs too – they just don’t know it yet.
Homemade Gifts 11: Naturally Scented Gel Air-Fresheners – Homemade Gifts That Give On Giving!
These naturally scented gel air-fresheners are great for home, car, office, or on the go. They also make great inexpensive gifts that you can share with anyone.
They are easy and inexpensive to make. Here are the instructions:
- Dissolve two envelopes (2 Tbsp.) of unflavored gelatin in 1/2 cup of boiling water (this may take up to 5 minutes).
- Add 1/2 cup of ice-cold water to the gelatin mixture.
- Add 10-15 drops of the essential oil or blend of your choice.
- Add 3-5 drops of food coloring (if desired).
- Stir in 1 Tbsp. of salt, or 10-15 drops of a natural grain alcohol if desired (the salt or alcohol helps inhibit mold from growing on the gel).
- Pour the gel mixture into 2 oz salve containers, 1/3 oz lip gloss containers, or used baby food jars.
- Close the containers or jars, and allow to cool overnight (do not place in the fridge, or your food will absorb the scent).
- Decorate the containers or jars as desired.
How To Use These Gel Air Fresheners:
Open the container, place on a warm stove-top (not the burner) while cooking, or simply place the open container on the counter or a shelf inside your home, or in a cup-holder inside your car.
Try creating layered gels by filling a jar 1/2 way with one color of gel, allowing that to cool for a couple of hours, then pouring another color of gel on top of that.
Be creative! Your friends will never have received a gift like that before. This gift gives you the opportunity to talk about Young Living Essential Oils too.
Homemade Gifts 12: Make A Creamy Lip Balm Or Shiny Lip Gloss!
This creamy lip balm recipe is a lot of fun to make! You can make just one kind, or experiment and create several different flavors. Lip balm also makes a great addition to any gift basket!
You’ll need beeswax, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, honey, vitamin E and your essential oils. You can find the items at local health stores, craft stores or candle-making supply stores, and the grocery store.
Because lip balm is worn on the lips and might end up in the mouth, make sure the essential oils you use are Therapeutic-Grade Young Living essential oils. You will need about 5-10 drops of essential oil for this recipe.
Essential oils not only give your lip balm its own unique scent and flavor, they also add the benefits of the essential oil you use to your lip balm creation. Some favorite essential oils to use are peppermint or juniper.
If you use citrus oils such as orange, lime, lemon, or grapefruit, take caution not to use the citrus lip balms in the sun. They are photo-sensitizing and can increase the risk of sunburned lips.
- Pack grated beeswax or beeswax pellets into a Tablespoon size measuring spoon until it is packed level with the top, then dump the beeswax into a heat-proof measuring cup (such as a Pyrex brand measuring cup).
- Pack cocoa butter into a one-half-tablespoon size measuring spoon until it is packed level with the top, then dump cocoa butter into the measuring cup with the beeswax.
- Add 4 teaspoons of sweet almond oil to the beeswax and cocoa butter. If a sweeter lip gloss is desired, add up to 1 teaspoon of honey.
- Place the measuring cup in a large frying pan that is filled with 1″ of hot water. Place on the stove and turn the burner on low.
- Stir the mixture in the measuring cup with a popsickle stick or bamboo skewer every couple of minutes until the wax is completely melted (about 15-20 minutes).
- Turn off stove and carefully remove the measuring cup from the frying pan and place on a towel.
- If desired, stir in the contents of 1 capsule of vitamin E (or 3-4 drops liquid vitamin E). Stir in 5-10 drops of your desired essential oil or blend.
- Pour the mixture into lip balm dispensers, lip gloss containers, or any other small jar or container. This recipe will fill 4 or 5 containers. You may find it easier (and cleaner) to either use a small dropper to transfer the mixture into the small containers, or to use a small funnel to help pour the mixture into the small containers without spilling on the side.
To make this lip balm into a softer, shinier lip gloss, try adding a teaspoon more sweet almond oil, and a teaspoon less beeswax (or experiment with your own proportions to find something you like).
Create fun labels for your lip balm creations using 2″ x 4″ labels cut in half (2″ x 2″). This size fits perfectly on white lip balm dispensers. Enjoy the process! You can do it. After all, its a truly homemade gift. Friends will appreciate your effort!
Homemade Gifts 13: Homemade Massage Oils Make Exquisite Gifts …
Massage oils make great personalized gifts for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, baby showers, or any other special occasion. Give a single bottle, or create a massage gift-pack with several varieties of oils.
Pour one ounce of pure vegetable oil in a small cup or bowl (one ounce equals 1/8 cup, 2 tablespoons, or approximately 30 milliliters). Some oils that work well for massage are V-6 Mixing Oil (a blend of six different vegetable oils available from Young Living Essential Oils), grape seed oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil, or sesame seed oil.
Add 15-30 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend to the vegetable oil and stir together. Some oils that might work well either individually or as part of a blend are listed below.
Calming and Relaxing: Cedarwood, Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Clary Sage, Jasmine, Myrrh, or Ylang Ylang.
Invigorating or Energizing: Cypress, Fir, Juniper, Lemon, Nutmeg, Orange, Grapefruit or Peppermint.
Romantic: Rose, Jasmine, Clary Sage, Rosewood, or Ylang Ylang.
Pour the combined oils into a one-ounce amber glass bottle. (Use dark glass to protect the oils from light.)
Create a label or gift-tag that says what kind of massage oil it is, what the ingredients are, and how to use it. For example, your label or gift-tag might read:
Peaceful Moment Massage Oil: Contains pure vegetable oil and therapeutic-grade essential oils of Lavender and Chamomile. Apply to desired area and massage oil into the skin. Enjoy!
Have fun making your own wonderful personal care products and gifts that you, your family and friends will love!
Homemade Gifts 14: Get The Young Living Cookbook – Healthy Cooking for the Body, Mind, and Soul For Gift Giving Ideas
The recipes and tips in the cookbook were gathered from Young Living’s renowned Whispering Springs BBQ Smokehouse Grill and a variety of health-conscious cooks from around the country.
Feel the passion for great tasting food that is also good for you. Recipes include such favorites as Lavender Chicken, Gingered Tofu Stir-Fry, and Wolfberry Cheesecake.
Shane Memmott, chef at the Whispering Springs restaurant said,
“Cooking with essential oils adds a ‘fresh from the garden’ flavor to every recipe. Practically everyone that comes into the restaurant comments on the exceptional flavor of the food and asks us how we prepared the meal.
People are surprised when we tell them that essential oils create that unique and wonderful taste. When you use dried herbs, they have a stale taste that is never as good as fresh cut herbs.
Essential oils always have the same full flavor as fresh cut herbs and because they are so concentrated, you do not have to use as much. Cooking with essential oils gives you your very own year-round herb garden.”
Young Living’s essential oils are very potent. One drop of essential oil is equal to approximately one tablespoon of dried herbs. Because of their potency, use care when you are adding essential oils to your cooking. It is much easier to add a little more if needed than to try to remove too much.
Homemade Gifts 15: Pamper Yourself And Your Loved Ones With These Homemade “Feel Good” Gift Recipes
Adding Essential oils to bath water is challenging because oil does not mix with water.
Bath Recipe 1:
For even dispersion, mix 5-10 drops of essential oil in 1/4 cup of Epsom salts or bath gel base and then add this mixture under a running faucet. This method will help the oils disperse evenly and prevent stronger oils from stinging sensitive areas.
You can also use pre-mixed bath gels and shampoos containing essential oils as a liquid soap in the shower or bath. Lather up with the bath gel, let it soak in, and then rinse. To maximize benefits, leave the soap or shampoo on the skin or scalp for several minutes to allow the essential oils to penetrate.
Bath Recipe 2:
You can create your own aromatic bath gels by placing 5-15 drops of essential oil in 1/2 oz unscented bath gel base, and then add to the bath water as described above.
For the Shower
Essential oils can be added to Epsom salts and used in the shower. There are special shower heads containing an attached receptacle that is filled with the essential oil/salts mixture. This allows essential oils to not only make contact with the skin, but also diffuse the fragrance of the oils into the air.
Start by adding 5-10 drops of essential oil to 1/4 cup bath salt. Fill the Showerhead receptacle with the oil and salt mixture. This should provide enough salt material for about 2-3 showers.
How to Enhance the Benefits of Essential Oils
The longer essential oils stay in contact with the skin, the more likely they are to be absorbed. A high-quality lotion may be layered on top of the essential oils to reduce evaporation of the oils and enhance penetration. This may also help seal and protect cuts and wounds. Do not use ointments on burns until they are at least three days old.
Homemade Gifts 16: How Cleaning With Thieves Can Make Life Easier … Perfect “Homemade” Gifts!
Thieves Household Cleaner
“One of my clients got gum inside the pocket of a school uniform shirt. I used Thieves® Household Cleaner undiluted right on the shirt, and the gum simply melted off!” Dawn Cable [Please test fabrics for color safety before applying essential oils.]
Thieves – Natural Waterless Handsoap
“I’m unable to tolerate the chemicals and perfumes in the soaps in public restrooms, so I am glad to have Thieves® Waterless Hand Purifier in a size so convenient for purses.
One day while eating lunch, I spilled on my pastel cotton top. I thought of the Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier I had in my purse, dabbed some on, rubbed a little with my finger, and left it. The next day, I did laundry and my top came out with the stain gone. Thank you for a great product!” Stephanie Cohen
Thieves Dust Mites – Sleep Tight
“I used to suffer from the negative effects associated with dust mites, especially during the winter months when everything is sealed up to keep out the cold. Now when I make my bed each week, I use Thieves Spray on my pillows and bed sheets.
I also spray the whole mattress when I strip the bed and mattress cover each month. Because I have hot air heating, more dust is generated in the winter months, and Thieves helps me control the situation.” Doris J. Bellero
Thieves Oven Cleaning Tip
“I was cleaning my oven with chemicals; they were not getting my oven clean, so I thought I would try Thieves Household Cleaner.
I applied it straight from the bottle on the area that needed the most cleaning and left it for about five minutes. I went back to wipe it up, and it came up clean as a whistle. I could not believe it! I will no longer use chemicals to clean the oven. Thieves Household Cleaner does the trick!” Penny LeClair
Mold and Mildew Smell on Towels
- pour a cup of ammonia in with your wash
- put extra liquid downey in the wash
- add borax in with the detergent
- or try adding vinegar and baking soda to the final rinse
Or instead: Use Thieves! Add a drop or two of nontoxic, great smelling, antiviral Thieves Oil on a washcloth or towel, or any piece of laundry. Just two drops are enough to make the whole laundry smell fresh and clean! Or use the Thieves Household Cleaner to add two or three spritzer to the washload.
A great side effect: Mold that grows in your washer (it’s often the case when your clothes smell musty after washing) will be killed too.
